Jane’s Addiction (and their biggest song “Jane Says”) is named after Jane Bainter, a housemate of singer Perry Farrell during the mid 1980’s in the Hancock Park district of Los Angeles. That’s her in the liner notes to the band’s first album. Jane was addicted to heroin. If there was trouble in their shared house, which there often was, apparently, Farrell would blame “Jane’s Addiction.”
The chorus to “Jane Says” – “I’m going to kick tomorrow” – refers to her consistently broken promise that she would eventually quit heroin.
She eventually did quit heroin, and resides healthily in Los Angeles.
