“Journalists used to be powerful. But now there are so many 25-year-old bloggers, many of them showing up on the TV talk shows, that the old-timers are struggling to catch up, tweeting their hearts out and using hip language like ‘hashtags.’”—
Sally Quinn on the end of power in Washington.
Wait, how does introducing a new technology signify “the end of power in Washington”? Popularity on a service doesn’t mean anything in the long run. Just because someone has more followers shouldn’t give them credence. Popularity by and large doesn’t mean anything unless its an actual vote. You can’t put journalism into the same realm as Tila Tequila, ‘YOLO’, and meth. We seem to be trying that now and its not working. Once network news gets that through their skulls then maybe – maybe! – we’ll finally start to see a shift away from the hyperbolic 24/7 news cycle.
The horror! The horror! The Villagers are out of touch!
